A Real Energy Policy:
Policy for people, not the oil industry! We must develop an Energy Policy that works for all Americans - not just the oil industry! The first energy bill that was brought forward by President Bush, Representative Miller and the old neo-con Congress provided
billions of dollars in tax breaks for the Oil Industry. Congress is STILL giving millions in tax breaks to oil companies, while
big oil is wallowing in gluttonous record-breaking profits. Giving tax breaks for oil companies when oil has topped $100 a barel and gas is threatening to climb to four dollars a gallion? It makes no sense.
You are subsidizing the purchase of Japanese-made vehicles! Congresswoman Miller claims to represent your interests, yet voted to approve the Bush-Cheney energy bill. This bill gave the tax breaks to foreign-made vehicles and to the oil industry. Of course, Rep. Miller received campaign contributions from the oil industry's lobby, the maximum allowed by law! Coincidence? Rep. Miller rubber-stamped the energy bill created by Dick Cheney and several unnamed others behind the closed doors of the Vice President's office. Freedom of Information Act filings asking who participated in composing the Bush energy bill were ignored by the Administration. It's been suggested that the CEO of defunct Enron helped compose the bill. Whoever wrote it, Representative Miller voted for its passage. The Bush Administration's national energy policy became law, (Jun 2004). As previously noted, Rep. Miller also voted yes on implementing Bush-Cheney national energy policy, (Nov 2003). That's teamwork, but what an awful team! As your Congressman, I would eliminate the tax breaks given to the oil industry. While they have set record profits, quarter after quarter, the price of gas has skyrocketed. Worry over an unsettled Middle East and the war on Iraq continue to make fuel unaffordable.
