Improve National Security

National Security?

Today's laws allow foreign companies, including those controlled by foreign governments, to buy businesses that control security in our ports and other infrastructure critical to the security of the United States. Security for cargo shipments is frequently handled overseas, sometimes in countries whose friendship with the Unites States is suspect. Do you trust these nations to keep you safe?
Since 9/11, of the 10 million cargo containers that enter the United States ports every year, only 60% are screened for radioactive material. Less than 6% are ever actually inspected. This situation is unacceptable, given all of the rhetoric about the terrorists on our doorstep.
Freedon and security does not come from spying on Americans. The team effort of the Bush Administration and Representative Miller to use national security as an excuse to roll back liberties is a cynical ploy to control public opinion. Such rollbacks in liberty and freedom are contrary to Rep. Miller's Oath of Office. Rep. Miller voted YES on allowing electronic surveillance without a warrant, (Sep 2006). Rep. Miller voted YES on continuing intelligence gathering without civil oversight, (Apr 2006). Congresswoman Miller voted YES on continuing military recruitment on college campuses and at High Schools, (Feb 2005). This bill used the "No Child Left Behind" Act to threaten pulling school educational funding from schools that do not allow recruiting on campus. Every vote that Rep. Miller has cast for war spending, emergency war spending or supplemental war spending has been YES. No doubt about it, Rep. Miller has enabled the war on Iraq - and that war has made America LESS safe!

It’s time for a Change for the Better!

As your Congressman, I would propose legislation that would stop foreign countries from being able to control our ports and other infrastructure critical to our national security.
I would increase the capabilities of the Port Authorities to ensure that 100% of the cargo entering the United States is screened to ensure it does not contain any threat to the citizens of the United States. I would also work to ensure that Osama Bin Laden is captured and brought to justice. If George W. Bush had finished the job in Afghanistan, Bin Laden would have been killed or captured. He would not be producing video tapes, tapes the administration uses to frighten Americans!
Finally, for the sake of National Security, the war on Iraq must stop. America must work to capture the hearts and minds of the Islamic world. America must reach out to the peacful Muslim majority. That is the path to National Security. By invading and occupying Iraq, George Bush and those that voted for war have made America's foreign policy a terrorist recruiting poster. Too late did President Bush admit that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 - or Al Qaeda! All the dying, all the war, all the fighting, all the hate, all the destruction and all the cost have been for naught. We are LESS safe because of the Bush-Miller war of aggression on Iraq.
